The zorn museum
In the heart of Mora, in the middle of Sweden, lies the Zorn Museum, a sanctuary dedicated to one of Sweden's most iconic artists Anders Zorn (1860-1920) and his wife Emma (1860–1942). At the museum, you can explore the largest collection of Anders Zorn's work, including his watercolors, oil paintings, sculptures and etchings.
Today, the Zorn Museum continues to be a magnet for art lovers from near and far, with over 60,000 visitors each year. It is more than just a collection of the artist's work; it's a story of his lifetime. Next to the museum stands Zorngården, Zorn's own home, built and furnished by him and his wife Emma which gives visitors a unique look into their daily lives. A kilometer away, Zorn's Gammelgård, features historic timber houses where visitors can take tours to learn about the local history and culture.
Behind the rich tale of Zorn and his surroundings lies another crucial component: the preservation of his and Emma's extensive collection of objects and artworks. Throughout their lives and travels, they collected over 20,000 items; including textiles, antique treasures, and paintings. To safeguard the couples' collections, the museum chose to self-finance a preservation project. This project aimed to build an environment ensuring the long-term protection of these collections.

the solution
In 2019, the Zorn Museum started a collaboration with Bruynzeel to redesign its storage in order to safeguard the couple's collections. The staff conducted a thorough inventory to provide the basis for today's installed solution. Bruynzeel responded with a tailored solution that combined functionality and aesthetics. By integrating mobile shelving systems and custom storage solutions, Bruynzeel managed to create an environment that not only protected the collection from the damages of time but also made it easily accessible to researchers and art enthusiasts.
The mobile storage system offers various solutions tailored to the items being stored and to the building construction. For instance, it includes textile rolls for carpets, hangers for clothes, drawers for hats and art collections, and dividers for frames. On the other side of the mobile shelving system, Bruynzeel has installed static cabinets designed for storing various types of art, along with a long carpet roll. In October 2023, the finished result was unveiled, ensuring that Zorn's legacy will continue to inspire and educate for generations to come.
